3D CAD Design https://spfxunlimited.com/3d-cad-design/ https://spfxunlimited.com/3d-cad-design/#respond Sat, 28 Nov 2020 22:43:27 +0000 http://spfxunlimited.com/?p=67 Before you can 3D print a part you have to design it using CAD software. There are many softwares out there, some of the more popular ones are Solidworks and Rhino. I prefer to use Fusion 360. It has a built in CAM processor for outputting directly to your machine. We can output our designs right into our 3D printer, CNC Machine, or Plasma Cutter for cutting! The processor converts the shapes to a STL file or G-code. Having everything all in the same software makes it easy to streamline your fabrication from design to final product.

3D Printing https://spfxunlimited.com/3d-printing-a-floating-torch-holder/ https://spfxunlimited.com/3d-printing-a-floating-torch-holder/#respond Fri, 27 Nov 2020 07:54:59 +0000 http://spfxunlimited.com/?p=8 Do you need a quick prototype parts? Do you want to test the part design before you put down the cash to mill it out of metal? Why not 3D print it? I put this part in my 3D printer before I went to sleep and when I woke up, it was finished! I always thought that 3D prints were weak, but I made this out of 80% solid infill. Its pretty much solid plastic, and man is it strong! I cant even flex these parts!

But what is it? Its a floating torch holder for our new plasma machine. The machine came with one that was broken and in imho it was a bad design anyways so why not make it the right way? This thing is awesome, it slides up and down on two rails with roller bearings fit inside the print, 2 springs and a bunch of metal bolts holding it all together! This is just too cool!
